Junior Program
St Bernard’s Old Collegians Cricket Club offers a full program of junior cricket, starting at Junior Blast for beginners, through to Under 10, Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16s for boys and girls.
Junior teams play in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association (NMWCA) on synthetic wickets and grounds suitable to the relevant age group.
Under 10s play with a soft cricket ball and full cricket equipment, with hard cricket balls used from Under 12s upwards. Modified rules exist at each age level to encourage participation by all players, changing and progressively moving towards senior cricket rules at Under 16s.
This provides a pathway through to Senior Cricket on turf wickets, with St Bernard’s OCCC playing in the prestigious Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association (VSDCA), the second tier of club cricket in Victoria.
This season we have introduced an Under 18 team, which will play in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association (VTCA) competition on turf wickets on Sundays. This will be a further step to Senior Cricket and will be part of the senior arm of the club. The Under 18 registration process will be separate and this will be communicated separately to those who have expressed interest.
Matches
Most junior Mixed grades play matches on Friday afternoons. Older age groups have the ability to play on Saturday mornings. Girls’ grades play on Wednesday afternoons.
Home matches for our teams are played at St Bernard’s College or at Fairbairn Park, Ascot Vale.
Training
Training is held at St Bernard’s College at the cricket nets and ovals. The exact days & times of training for each age group will be announced closer to the season when finalised with coaches.
Teams have one training session per week, and will be on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoons.
Registration Fees – 2025 / 2026
Fees have remained at the same level for the past 4 seasons. Unfortunately due to rising costs, and the greater number of independent umpires being appointed to junior matches at age levels U12-U16, we have had to implement an increase in club fees this season.
Under 12s, Under 14s & Under 16s - $349 per player
Under 10s - $249 per player
The compulsory Cricket Australia National Registration Fee of $17.45 per junior player is additional. Please note unlike some other clubs our registration fees are all inclusive. There are no additional weekly fees or other amounts payable through the season.
A 20% discount is available for an additional sibling from the same family registered on the same PlayHQ account. Please use Voucher Code 272100B8 at the final checkout screen on PlayHQ when registering the second player and the system will calculate the discount.
This season all players will receive a new club playing top complementary with their registration to wear during matches. Sizing is selected with the registration.
Registrations made by 5 September will enable players to select their own number and personalised name to be on the club playing top, with delivery before Round 1. Later registrations will just have a designated number and can’t be personalised.
All new players registering to the club for the first time will also receive a training top and club cap.
Uniform
All players are expected to play matches in a club playing top and club cap.
All players are to also wear a pair of white cricket trousers in matches, which can be purchased from any sports store.
Any returning players who need new training tops and/or club cap can purchase these when registering. The training tops are to be worn at cricket training.
Equipment
Club kit equipment is provided at Under 10 level – Bats, Pads, Helmets, Gloves, etc.
As most players at older age groups U12 and above tend to have their own equipment, club kits are not provided at these age levels.
Sponsorship
If you have a business we can offer up a sponsorship package to suit, including any registration fees for your child into a package that is tax deductible to a business. If this option appeals to you, please register as a ‘Player Sponsor’ through PlayHQ and Anthony Jordan will be in contact for further information on the promotional opportunities, including space on our new playing tops.
Junior Sub-Committee
Due to the retirement of some previous members, we do require some assistance with some smaller roles this season. There is a minimal time commitment (no meetings) and if you do feel you can be of assistance in any way please contact Anthony Jordan.
